How would you judge Margaret Thatcher?

If she had such a good grasp on economics why was Britain during the 1980s one of the poorest nations in Western Europe. At the time our industry was not really making money and it was probably the right decision at the time. However look at us now we have no industry and we are on our knees watching France and Germany, who have mive industries, race into the distance. There is even now talk from HSBC that Britains' only chance to survive would be to become a manufacturing hub once again. So we have gone full circle.
